BBC South West Reports on Sculpture at Kingham Lodge 2016

The third show

By the third show we were successfully building on our experience and in particular had baked so, so, so many more scones for the freezer.  Local schools were again involved and we planned to build on the success of over 7000 visitors and £40,000 raised across the previous 2 shows.

Consolidation

By now we had established the pattern of the show.  9 local schools exhibited with us enjoying support ranging from funds to cover artistic materials to artists work shopping with the schools to funding transport to bring the children to the show.  We did our best to meet the various needs of the schools.  We had hundreds of professional artists from Zimbabwe, the local area and some further afield.

The local football team helped marshal the parking and friends and family manned the cafe which again proved a huge draw in the glorious weather as locals popped in repeatedly as much for the cafe as the art.

Moving forward

The show continued to build on the success of previous years raising over £40,000 in one show alone for charity and giving over 4000 visitors a happy day out. We struggled to keep up with the demand in the cafe again and at one point found our dear friend Charlie selling ‘futures’ in scones explaining you could buy now and the minute it was out of the oven it would be brought to your table!  Happy but exhausted at the end, we were all delighted to be able to raise so much money for charity and give so many people a very happy day(s) out.
