To commemorate the 75th anniversary of VE Day on 8th May 2020 we had planned an exhibit conceived by the art department of Bloxham School, which we have decided together to exhibit this year.
Bloxham School worked with artist Will Lehmann, who was involved in the original 2014 display at the Tower of London ‘Blood swept lands and seas of red’. To make the 500 poppies you can see here, Bloxham School used moulds from the 2014 art installation to create ceramic poppies in red, white and purple. We have laid these out, to scale, in the shape of a spitfire. One of the enduring symbols of WWII and integral to the achievement of Victory in Europe 76 years ago.
This was a collaborative artwork with Bloxham Primary School, Hook Norton Primary School, St Hughs Prep School and Winchester House Prep School.
