Deborah Harrison

Deborah was born in Yorkshire. She is an international award-winning sculptor who specializes in stone. She discovered her aptitude for sculpting in her middle years at an arts festival and went on to study stonemasonry. Deborah uses the direct carving method (pioneered by Constantin Brancusi) which follows the grain, colour and form of the stone. Operating with both intuition and faith, she unearths forms from within the stone. She reaches a kind of skin, and the sculpture takes on a life of its own. Her work can be abstract or figurative, especially touching on themes of human suffering, healing and spirituality.

Deborah has collectors in the USA and Europe. Notable purchases have been made by Gloucestershire NHS Trust and Sir Malcolm Evans, the ten-year chair of the United Nations anti-torture subcommittee. Deborah is the sculptor in residence at Gloucester City Works where she leads classes and welcomes commissions.
