John Cox

Born in Dagenham, as a youngster John was schooled by his grandfather who was a master joiner, carver and restorer in the art of woodwork and developed at an early age the ability to practice and develop skills in traditional joinery, veneer application, marquetry and French polishing.

A competent engineer with a wide range of practical experience in all aspects of renovation and restoration in a variety of disciplines and within a number of industries

He had an extraordinary ability to shape metal, wood and other mediums to produce original, tantalizing sculptures and innovative interiors.  Proficient in the art of patination with the ability to produce colour matching as well as unique finishes

John had a life time flirtation with art in many forms, but it was in later years that he undertook sculpture on a commercial basis.  His preference was for life study works of people and animals but he deviated to other subjects to satisfy all tastes.

During the 1990’s he was commissioned by Tameside Borough Council to design and produce a number of sculptures pertinent to different towns in the region.

His wife, Joy and daughter, Jayne continue his legacy of fine works.
