I love the strength and rigidity that welding gives to my pieces, while letting them appear delicate and graceful. I never get tired of the, almost magical and supremely satisfying process of fusing metal together amidst a shower of sparks. I like the colour contrast resulting from using mild steel, treated to turn a rich brown and then sealed in protective oil, and the bright stainless steel which reflects the light. I enjoy the challenge of using existing materials, with their inherent properties, and using them in new effect in my pieces.
My style varies from the occasionally industrial and robotic, to the lyrical, elegant forms of the flower stems and birds. The use of cutlery is a fun addition as well as introducing another texture and beautiful, highly reflective finish. I like to introduce movement when possible, and most of my pieces are designed to behave naturally and sway in the breeze.
